In the past, LPG was known as one of the most efficient fuels for powering machinery, but in recent years electricity has taken centre stage. But regardless of the increase in popularity of electric vehicles, you may still be left wondering if LPG is still an efficient and eco-friendly form of power?
Liquified Petroleum Gas, or LPG, is a combination of two natural gases: Propane and butane. LPG is considered a form of green energy because it is generated from natural resources and does not release harmful gases into the atmosphere. This means that LPG doesn’t produce the same level of pollution that a forklift powered by diesel would.
In short, yes. Using LPG fuels means that you will only release minimal amounts of carbon dioxide and in the event of an LPG leak, the liquified gas will evaporate imminently to prevent contamination of the natural environment. When tested in cars and vans, LPG has been identified as more environmentally friendly than other fuel types, so it makes sense that these eco-friendly benefits also translate to when LPG is used in industrial machines, such as forklifts.
Electric powered forklifts have become a strong competitor for LPG over the past year or two. With zero emissions, and generally being easier to use, many users are choosing to go electric when upgrading their fleet. But are electric vehicles actually greener?
This will largely depend on how the electricity is sourced, for example, if electricity is generated through renewable means, such as solar power, then it will be much more environmentally friendly than electricity generated through the burning of fossil fuels, which would still be detrimental to the environment. The amount that electric vehicles are charged can also make a difference. If you leave the forklift charging for a considerable length of time every day, it could raise your carbon footprint over time. All of these factors can impact just how green an electric vehicle is compared to LPG.
LPG forklifts can be used indoors and outdoors, and are more powerful than electric vehicles. LPG trucks are known for their reliability for continuous use without losing quality over time. With the ability to quickly replace the canisters to refuel, there is no waiting around for the forklift to refuel or recharge, making LPG trucks extremely convenient.
