Happy 38th Birthday to Welfaux

Today marks 38 years since the start of Welfaux, when materials handling looked a little different (and so did our cars!), Prince's ‘Kiss’ was spilling from radios everywhere and our now-MD Chris Welsher hadn’t yet come into existence. To mark the occasion, we have been taking a look back through our archive, and reminding ourselves of how much we’ve achieved since our founding in 1986, as well as looking ahead at what’s set to be an exciting year for the business. Back in the early days, Welfaux HQ certainly looked a little different. Since then, we’ve made the move from Crowthorne to Wokingham to extend our footprint, and are now almost at the end of a major extension, which we’re excited to reveal in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to see those before and after pics!
We’ve always loved knowing where our forklifts end up and getting to know all the different types of businesses who use them. This case study was for a Data Cable Manufacturer who wanted to replace the entire forklift truck fleet that served its 150,000 sq. ft. factory.
The requirements were quite specific, with the trucks needing to be able to carry up to 2.5 tonnes over rough terrain, so we supplied them with both 2.5 and 3 tonne R60 trucks, the equivalent of which today would be one an electric Mitsubishi counterbalance FB25 or FB30.
Fast forward to 2016 when Welfaux won the Forklift Truck Dealer Of The Year Award at the FLTA Fork Lift Truck Awards for Excellence. Below, you can see a young Chris Welsher (second from right) and Simon Moody (second from left), both of whom are still with Welfaux today, with Chris having just taken over from his father, Andy, as Managing Director. This was a fantastic achievement and everything that went into receiving that award is still part of our ethos today.
Today, our forklift dealership remains based in Wokingham, providing Mitsubishi and Combilift fork trucks to the South of England. We have recently made some exciting changes to the team, including internal promotions as well as expansion, and are on the final stretch of a huge extension project, further expanding our footprint. This extension will allow us to increase our available stock, and enhance the efficiency of our day-to-day operations, whilst also giving our fantastic staff an improved environment to work in.
